Soc 15- The Structure Of The Heart Flashcards
Cardio-respiratory system
The interaction of the heart and lungs to supply oxygen to muscles during exercise
Cardiovascular
To do with the heart , blood and blood vessles together
Vasodilation
When viens swell up or dilate; widening of the internal diameter (lumen) of the blood vessel to allow increased blood flow
Vasocnstriction
When viens shrink down narrowing of the internal diameter (lumen) of the blood vessle to decrease blood flow
Vasocnstriction
When viens shrink down narrowing of the internal diameter (lumen) of the blood vessle to decrease blood flow
Vascular shunting
process that increases blood flow to active areas during exercise by diverting blood away from inactive areas; achieved by vasodilation and vasoconstriction.
3 main functions of the cardiovascular system
Transports oxygen, carbon dioxide and nutrients
Helps clot blood
It controls the bodys temperature
Cardiovascular fitness
The ability to exersice the whole body for long periods of time
Vascular shunting
Process that increaces blood flow to activate area during exercise by diverting blood away from inactive areas achieved by vasodilation and vasoconstriction.
What makes up the cardiovasular system
If formed by our heart and blood vessles. Cardio means the heart and vascular mean blood vessles
Hypothermia
The body loses heat faster than it can produce heat resulting in a dangerously low body temperature
Hyperthermia
Is a condition tat occurs when your body temperature is too high and threaterns your health
Dehydration
Occurs when your body loses more fluid than you take in
