Soc 14 The Muscular System Flashcards

1
Q

What are voluntary muscles?

A

Voluntary muscles are under your control, you can choose when to contract or relax them. All these muscles are attached to the skeleton via tendons. When your muscles contract movement takes place.

Q

What are cardiac muscles?

A

Only found in the wall of the heart it is a very specialised type of involuntary muscle, Cardia muscle is made up of interlaced fibres. These fibres can spread electronical signals from the brain right through the heart so that all the cells can contract forether This regulates your heart rate and means that when prise your heart keeps pumping in the right way.

Made up of voluntary muscle

17
Q

What is type I in miscle fibres?

A

Slow twitch muscle fibres;suited to low intensity work

18
Q

What is type IIa in muscle fibres?

A

Fast twitch muscle fibres used in anaerobic work

19
Q

What i type IIx in muscle fibres?

A

Fast twotch muscle fibres used in anaerobic work and can generate much greater force than other fibres types

20
Q

What is a myoglobin?

A

A red pigment that transports oxygen to the muscle

21
Q

What is an antagonistic pair?

A

Muscle that work together to create movement
