What are the four classifications for bones?
Long bone - allows movements
Short bone - weight bearing
Irregular bone - protect vital organs
Flat bone - offer good surface area for muscle attatchment
What are the four joints?
Ball and socket
Pivot
Hinge
Condyloid
What is an example of a pivot joint?
In your neck you have a pivot joint because you can only rotate your neck
What is an example of a hing joint?
In your elbow you have a hing joint because you only have one range of motion with is backwards and forwards
What is an example of ball and socket joint
In your shoulder you have a ball and socket joint which allows you to move your arm quite freely but it is very easy to dislocate
Long bones
They are wide but they dont have to be big
Short bones
Generally the same size in the only short bones in the body are carpals and tarsals
Flat bones
Flat bones usually protect organs and offer a good surface for mscles to attach to
Irregular bones
Irregular bones have odd shapes and vary in function. For example the vertebrae which helps protect the spinal column
