Soc 13: Joins, Movement, Ligaments And Tendons Flashcards
What are the 4 types of joint?
Pivot
Hinge
Ball and socket
Condyloid
Examples of a pivot joint
Allows bone to rotate (neck)
Example of hinge joint
A joint that allows onky backwards and forwards motions (elbow)
Example of a ball and socket joint
The rounded head of a lomg bone fits into a cup sized hole (hip)
Example of a condyloid joint
Rests against the end of a bone rather than inside a socket (wrist)
What are the 8 movements and examples
Flexion- shoulder,hip elbow
Extension- shoulder hip
Adduction- shoulder hip
Abduction- shoulder hip
Rotation- shoulder hip
Circumduction- shoulder hip
Dorsi flexion- ankle
Plantar flexion- ankle
What are 5 functions of the skeletal system
Protection for vital organs, produce white and red blood cells, joint movement, storing calcium and phosphorus and muscle attachment
What is a Ligament?
Ligaments are elastic fibers that join one bone to another, usually to hold things together and keep them stable. They keep your skeleton supported whilst allowing movement.
What is a Tendon?
Tendons are non-elastic fibres that attach muscle to bone, and help to move them. Tendons let you apply power and movement. Tendons grow in strength the more you use them.
