Soc 10 Flashcards
What are the 8 different injuries
Sprain,strain,torn cartilage,concussion
Abrasion,fracture,dislocated,soft tissue
What is a soft tissue?
ligaments, muscles and tendons
What is a sprain
A sprain is a damaged ligiment.occurs when stretching too far past the normal range
What is a strain
A strain is a twist, tear or overstretched muscle or a tendon.
Where is the most common strain located?
In the back and the hamstrings
What is a cartilage
Cartilage is a firm elastic substance which lines adjoining bones.it absorbs the impact on the bones while reducing the friction.
What is the difference between a sprain and a strain
A sprain is a damage to ligament and a strain is a twist or teard muscle
What are the 4 different fractures
Stress fracture
Compound fracture
In closed fracture
Simple fracture
What is a stress fracture?
Overuse injury. They can happen as a result of fatigue
What is a compound fracture?
The broken bone protudes through the skin
What is an in closed fracture?
The skin over the break is not damaged
What is a Simple fracture
Take place with no displacement of the bone
What are the different types of simple/closed fractures
Greenstick
Transverse
Impacted
Comminuted
Oblique
What is greenstick
Break only part way across the bone
What is a Transverse
Break straight across
What is impacted
Pieces locked into eachother
What is a comminuted
Broken into more than two pieces
What is oblique
Break at an angle
What are the two types of strains
Golfers elbow and tennis elbow
How does a golfers and tennis elbow occur
The tendons are inflamed due to overuse, causingnpain on the outside of the elbow
What is dislocation
A dislocation is when a bone at a joint is forced out of its normal position
What is abrasion
Abrasions or grazes can be caused by friction of the skin against a rough surface
What is RICE
Rest
Ice
Compress
Elevate
