Heart Flashcards
What is 3 main functions of the CV system?
transport of oxygen, carbon dioxide and nutrients.
clotting of open wounds.
regulation of body temperature.
What is vascular shunting vasodilation?
Blood flows to active areas and diverts away from inactive areas
What does cardio and vascular mean
The cardiovascular system is formed by our heart and blood vessels. Cardio means the heart and vascular mean blood vessels.
What are the three main functions of the cv system
Transport oxygen around the body
Regulate the body temputure
Clotting of wounds
how does it Help clot blood
Blood contains platelets which help clots our blood and form scabs which help stop bleeding and healing. In some sports small cuts are common and so this is important
White blood cells and platlets
White blood cells stop infections and platlets help stop the bleeding
It controls the body temputure
If you get too hot the blood vessels close the the skin get bigger(vasodilation). Blood is diverted to the surface to allow more heat to radiate out
Vasoconstriction
If you become too cold your vessels get smaller to avoid heat being lost
Cardiovascular fitness
The ability to exercise the whole body for long periods of time
Vacular shunting
Increases blood flow to active areas during exercise by diverting blood away from inactive areas. Achieved by vasodilation and vasconstriction
Cardio-respiratory system
The interaction of the heart and lungs to supply oxygen to muscles during exercise
Vasodilation
When beins swell up or dialate, widening of the internal diametre, increased blood flow
Arteries
Arteries take blood away from the heart, have thick walls, elastic veins, carry oxygenated blood
Pulmonary artery
different from other arteries as it carries deoxygenated blood from the heart to the lunds
Veins
Carry blood into the heart
Plmonary vein
Carries oxygenated blood from the lungs back to the heart
Capillaries
Microscopic vessels(1 thick cell),carty oxygenated blood which transfer oxygenen, nutrients to themjscles
The first phase of the lub dub
Systolic phase
The second phase of the lub dub
Diastolic phase
Styoloc phase
Blood is pumped from both atria into the ventricles(lub)
Then both the ventricles contract(dub)
Diastolic phase
This is when the heart is relaxing and refilling the atria with blood.
Blood pressure
A measure of force that your hearts uses to pump the blood around your body
Whats the importance of red blood cells
Red blood cells transport oxygen from the lungs the bodys cells, and carbon dioxide from the cells to the lungs
What do they contain
Haemoglobin which stores oxygen and carbon dioxide
