What do the numbers an IP rating numbers signify?

• The first digit of an IP rating is it’s ability to prevent ingress of dust e.g IP68 means it is dust tight and no ingress of dust can occur.
• the second digit signifies it’s ability to prevent the ingress of water. E.g. IP rating of 68 the 8 can mean the device can be submerged in water 1 meter or more for 30 minutes.
