Connectors( Comptia Objective 3.2) Flashcards
What connector is used for landline telephone connections?
RJ11
- 6 position, 2 conductor( 6P2C)
- Telephone
On a side note RJ14 uses 6P4C for dual lines
What connector is used for a Wired ethernet connection?
RJ45
- 8 position, 8 conductor( 8P8C)
- Modular connection
On side note is similar in shape to RJ48C( 8P4C which is used for T1/WAN data lines)
What type of serial legacy connector was used to connect modems, printers, mice, networking etc?
RS-232
- examples including DB-25/ DE9( Also known as DB9)
- Serial connections standard before USB was available
- Nowadays used as a configuration port
This type of connector is commonly used on Coaxial cables where you plug in and twist to lock?
BNC Connector
- Bayonet Neill - Concelman
- Paul Neill( Bell labs) and Carl Concelman( Amphenol))
- Commonly used for WAN links especially DS3
- Rigid and Bulky can be difficult to work with.
This type of connector is also commonly used on Coaxial cables which has a threaded connection?
F-Connector
- Commonly used for Cable Television/ Cable Modem
- RG-6 or RG-59 Cable
- Has a threaded connector
How many pins does a apple lightning connector have?
8 pins - digital signals
What are examples of various connectors for the SCSI interfaces?
Connectors include :
- DB-25 Male and female
- Low density, 50 pin, Male External/ Female External
- High-density 50 pin Male External/ Female External
- Low-density 50 pin Male Internal/ Female Internal
- High-density 68 pin, Male External/ Female External
- High-Density 68 pin, Male Internal/ Female Internal
What type of connector would be used for an external sata drive?
eSATA
- Can be distiguished by it’s “ ears” on the sides of the square connector
- Standard Sata connectors have a “ L shape” connector with one “ ear” on the side
What type of older connector has a 4-pin peripheral power connector?
Molex Connector
- 4-pin peripheral power connector
- Commonly used to connect fans inside a computer
and can also be used for storage devices, optical drives etc.
- Molex Connector Company
- AMP MATE-N-LOK
- Provides +12V and +5V
What is the difference between the 568A and 568B TIA cabling standard?
- Typically 568A is used to run wire horizontally( On the same floor) Where as 568B is used for running wire vertically( to multiple levels).
- 568A can be IDd by looking at position 1 on an RJ45 connector and should have a White/Green wire, whereas on 568B it should have a White/Orange wire in position 1.
What type of Network cable should be used in a Plenum?
- A low smoke PVC cable which features teflon to reduce toxic fumes should be used.
What type of Network cable should be used to prevent EMI?
- STP( Shield Twisted Paired Cable) should be used which either uses foil to shield all inside wires, or foil shielding each individual wire inside of the cable.
- The shielding has to be grounded.
When it comes to Fiber Optic internet what are the advantages over cable/dsl ?
- Much faster speeds due to transmitting internet signal using light
- Can be run much farther sometimes hundreds of kilometers.
What is the difference between single mode and multimode fiber optic internet?
- Single mode is used over longer distances than multimode and can support up to 10gbps speeds
and can be run much farther than twisted pair cable - Multi mode is usually used for connecting buildings together in close proximity as it can only carry signals up to 600 meters e.g connecting buildings on a campus
What is the specification of USB 2.0
- High speed data transfer rate of 480 Mbps
