What is a Dyssomnia?
a sleep disorder with difficulty initiating/maintaining and/or timing sleep
results in a problem either falling asleep, staying asleep and/or excessive sleepiness
this makes the person suffer fromchanges in quantity and quality of their sleep
What is a Parasomnia?
sleep disorders where physiological and/or psychological activity occurs during sleep or transitions between waking/sleeping
abnormal sleep-related events, such as sleep walking, teeth grinding and terrifying dreams
This activity may occur in REM and NREM sleep stages
What is sleep onset dyssomnia
Insomnia is a sleep disorder that typically involves persistent difficulty initiating or maintaining sleep
It takes a long time to fall asleep, but the person can usually sleep through the night once sleep starts
What is Sonnambulism?
Sleep walking
involves getting up from bed and walking about or performing other behaviours while asleep, usually occurs during NREM stages 3 and 4
Most sleep walkers typically engage in activities that are of low complexity
episodes may occur up to 3-4times a week and usually last around a few minutes
