  • Extinction (allowing child to cry it out), graduated extinction
  • Establishment of a regular day-night routine and enjoyable bed-time routine

What is the difference between night terrors and nightmares?

A
  • Night terrors - FHx, first 1/3 of night (NREM), child is unrousable, inconsolable, amnesic, autonomic features (dilated pupils, sweating, tachycardia)
  • Nightmares - last 1/2 of night (REM), child is rousable, not amnesic, hard to return to sleep
