What are the principles of taking an obstetric history?

A
  • Establishing pregnancy (LNMP > 4 weeks ago, nausea, breast tenderness, nipple discharge, frequency) - urinary and serum bHCG
  • Name, age, parity, gestation, presenting problem
    • Gestation (Day 1 LNMP + 9 months 7 days)
  • Other pregnancies (year, gestation, outcome, management)
  • Gynae history (menstrual, sexual, PCOS, fertility, surgery)
  • Medications and allergies (folate! teratogens, penicillins)
  • FHx - diabetes, pregnancies
  • SHx - smoking/EtOH/drugs, relationships/support/domestic violence, support, occupation, diet, exercise
