Neonatal Resuscitation Flashcards

Q
How is an APGAR score assigned?
A
- How Ready Is This Child?
- Heart rate (absent, <100, >100)
- Respiratory effort (absent, slow, good/crying)
- Irritability (absent, grimace, cough/cry)
- Tone (limp, some flexion, active motion)
- Colour (blue, blue/pink, pink)
Also Appearance, Pulse, Grimace, Activity, Respiration

Q
Describe the neonatal resuscitation algorithm
A
- Term gestation/breathing/crying/good tone - prevent heat loss, continue to evaluate
- No? - prevent heat loss, ensure open airway, stimulate
- HR below 100/gasping/apnoea? - CPAP, SpO2 monitoring
- Ensure open airway, consider increasing CPAP if no response in HR
- HR below 60? - add chest compressions 3 per breath, 100% O2, consider intubation
- IV access, adrenaline, volume expansion

110-160
