Q

Have an understanding of data definitions and differences across the Group to ensure Sky Studios reporting is fully understood throughout the business

A

Yes, I’m responsible fro the tracking of our KPI metrics which are set by the Director of Strategy throughout the year and at the end of the year from our company performance review, for the attention of the CFO, CEO, and the Board

Data comes from a range of sources inc consumer research, our own records, BARB, from our retail partners, our connected base, so my job is to collate all of these and assess performance against targets and where necessary provide commentary on where we’re under or over performing

Because the Board read these document and ultimately decide on our end of year performance, its my job to ensure the definitions around our KPI data is well understood and always consistent

Working with the Board is working toward creating a positive case for Freesat, so my being accurate in this tracking is part of building and maintaining Freesat credibility as reporting inaccurately would really undermine that and hinder Freesat’s ability to secure board buy in

Our CEO presents our performance agains KPIs back to the whole company every quarter to build internal visibility and I’m the one who builds that slide deck for him. I try to build it in a very visually interesting way to visualise our progress, and i’ve always had really good feedback from team members with regards to how it looks and tells the story, so i think its worked really well in building an understanding of our performance against targets

Q

Help develop KPIs that drive behaviour that is beneficial to the business by co-ordinating analysis of which KPIs are relevant in each market.

A

I worked with Freesat’s CTO and CMO to create KPIs in their teams to drive behaviour toward achieving Freesat’s objectives

In each case, I spoke to them to tease out the areas of activity happening in their teams and their aspirations for the team

I’d take the ideas which aligned most with Freesat’s overarching objectives and

I took more general ideas such as improve engagement to more measurable and specific targets such as achieve this number of website page views per session, or achieve this milestone by this date

And then i looked at our previous performance in these areas to assess what sort of targets would be both ambitious but also realistic

And then the CMO/CTO would speak to their teams to ensure individuals were happy with the targets

And then i worked with each of them to present these to the wider team so that everyone could know what was happening in other teams and improve internal visibility

Q

Support implementation of Studios KPIs into local markets, lead efforts to automate KPI reporting where possible and liaise closely with Data Technology team for its delivery

A

The MI - accurately tracking all KPIs for the review of CEO, CFO, and Board which determines company score for the whole year

Data comes from a range of sources inc consumer research, our own records, BARB, from our retail partners, our connected base, so my job is to collate all of these and assess performance against targets and where necessary provide commentary on where we’re under or over performing- i do this for every board meeting which is every six week so i need to make sure all of those data drops aligns with this date

I currently don’t have this reporting automated but its my ambition to to achieve this, but i’m currently learning how to do this, and this is an area in which i’d really to develop

Q

Deputise for / assist Senior Manager in generating insights across Sky content
portfolios

A

I manage the generating of insights from Freesat’s BARB data and connected device base via TVBeat - I write reports covering key trends and identifying any risks/opportunities

I’m currently working on producing a half year BARB report which focuses on the impact of corona of viewing behaviours. I’ve looked at how the top content changed over this period, how average viewing duration spiked upward during the height of lockdown, how news and kids channels experienced a huge surge in SOV, and i made forecasts for the SOV performance of our key broadcaster portfolios - this analysis gives us an idea of which channels may be at risk in the long term and where there may be opportunities

Most recently i undertook an analysis in a channel which was commanding a share of viewing much higher than we’d expect it to do according to BARB figures. It was a small film channel but all of a sudden it started pulling c4 main channel numbers

this is a problem because it meant the channel was a risk of not being able to pay the fees associated with commanding that kind of audience

I had a look at how the channel was performing on other channels and i could see this change was only on Freesat so there was clearly something wrong happening on the Freesat BARB panel

After some investigation we discovered it was due to a sole heavily weighted panel member who was a Freesat user- our CEO presented my analysis to BARB and we were eventually able to get this panellist removed from the BARB panel and the channel went back to normal

Q

I have: Extensive experience in insight and analysis, preferably in a media environment

A

Yes, I do lots of work with insights and analysis in managing Freesat’s research needs, and audience measurement

I run our ongoing quant research and track the behaviours of our addressable audience as part of our KPI tracking and present key findings to senior stakeholders. I also do some ad hoc analysis, for example i did an analysis on consumer expectations around refurbished electronics products for the marketing team

I do lots of analysis on our audience measurement from BARB and our connected base from regular quarterly reports identifying risks opportunities and trends so that we don’t have any surprises when we charge our content partners and are aware of how the service is being used

But i’ll often do more bespoke ad hoc pieces when needed, for example i did an analysis on a channel which was overperforming on Freesat according to BARB

Q

An enquiring mind that thrives on new challenges, problem solving and a dynamic
environment

A

I really enjoy problem solving, i recently completed a project where our commercial team wanted to understand which VOD players they should be targeting to bring on board the platform

I brought clarity to this problem by thinking through the considerations we want to think about when prioritising, such as current uptake of these services, consumer expectation, the extent to which each player resonated with our audience, and the commercial and technical viability of bringing these services on board - i was able to score each player on these metrics using our own and syndicated research which provided each player with a score from which i could then make a clear ranking of services to present to the content team, which could inform their targeting strategy

Q

Strong numeracy skills and be statistically literate with a high level of attention to
detail

A

I’m responsible for tracking Freesat’s KPIs which relies on me being accurate in tracking performance against targets and having a high attention to detail as this goes to Freesat Board and determines the company score we get at the end of the year

Working with the Board is working toward creating a positive case for Freesat, so my being accurate in this tracking is part of building and maintaining Freesat credibility as reporting inaccurately would really undermine that and hinder Freesat’s ability to secure board buy in

I’m also a chemistry graduate so i’ve build a considerable numerical and statistical skills there

Q

Experience of TV audience measurement and analysis systems (e.g. Techedge)

A

BARB and TVBeat for TV audience mesurement, but i’ve also used GA/Datastudio, Crunch and Redash

I don’t have experience with TechEdge but im my experience there are a lot of similarities between many of these services so i’m sure i could pick up the skills requires fairly quickly, and these are skills i’d really to develop

Knowledge of linear and non-linear television markets and emerging trends in viewing behaviour

A

I manage all of Freesat research needs and track a lot of consumer behaviours

i also analysis of wider trends in the market, such as when new VOD services are launched and assessing the impact of these trends on Freesat

Or producing a summary of say, Media Nations reports either for the whole company, Freesat upper management or the Board
