Sky company questions Flashcards
Why do you want to work at Sky?
What makes Sky very interesting to me is its unique position as both a platform and a broadcaster - allow it to bring customers within its environment and deliver its unique content offering to build a first rate TV experience
No one else in the UK can do this, and it just one example of how Sky is constantly driving forward innovation in our our industry, whether thats Now TV, AdSmart, Sky Q - really setting the bar for what a first rate TV experience looks like, its ability to do that is furthered by being apart of a media conglomerate in the form of Comcast
I think the enviornment that creates would be a fantastic place further my development and further my understanding of the media environment
I’m from a small business which can be a little bit limiting in terms on development opportunities
Everyone i’ve spoken to who has worked there has spoken very highly of it
Why do you want this role?
Looking at the spec I think it incorporates a lot of the skills I’ve developed at Freesat and the areas which I enjoy most about the role
I really enjoy audience measurement because I like understanding what drives consumer behaviour and the success of different types of content and I like working with numbers
I’ve also done lots of work in KPI tracking and setting which is very relevant to the role, where I’ve come to appreciate the value of being very accurate in this tracking and driving good behaviour through these KPIs
So while the role incorporates a lot of what I enjoy, I also get the new perspective of coming from a Studios side with coverage outside of the UK rather than explicitly a platforms side
Finally, I know a few Sky alum and they always speak very highly of their experience at Sky so it’s somewhere I know I could develop in a really great culture and environment
Who are Sky’s competitors
Platform - Virgin, Freeview
Studios - BBC, ITV, all3media
Sky is a little bit younger than these competitors but i see it’s very ambitious in its plans to invest in content in the UK and European markets
I’ve no doubt that they new studio in Elstree will accelerate Sky studios growth and capacity to produce even more high class content and differenciate Sky’s proposition even more
The control of its distribution with the Sky platform environment means it gets a very clear picture datawise of how its content performs and is interacted with so it can keep understanding and improving how it makes content
What is good about Sky
What makes Sky very interesting to me is its unique position as both a platform and a broadcaster - allow it to bring customers within its environment and deliver its unique content offering to build a first rate TV experience
New studios in Elstree are a very exciting prospect in delivering first rate content to its uk as and pan european businesses which distinguish Sky as a platform even more to its competitors
Being a part of Comcast means it can leverage Comcast infrastructure in Sky’s less developed markets
Diverse revenues to support the rest of its business, so even in the face of a declining broadcast market it can still drive investment in other areas of its business
What are Sky’s challenges
There is the problem of its core UK pay TV business being mature and in a mature market (much like its competitors), and viewing behaviours shifting more toward IP rather than broadcast
Now TV in the face of Disney+ - uncertainty around its position now
Its studio competitors have been in the market for longer
im sure covid has hindered production which will make filling schedules difficult
What are you watching
Black Books on Netflix
We’ve finished our Disney nostalgia trip
Killing Eve on iplayer
Canada’s Drag race
Gangs of London - early on because i’m really slow, its hard to watch because its not exactly light viewing but the story is really good
Just started on I hate Suzie
What good about Sky Studios
The control of its distribution with the Sky platform environment means it gets a very clear picture datawise of how its content performs and is interacted with so it can keep understanding and improving how it makes content
By partnering with production companies it gets access to a diverse range of stories and formats to create shows that resonate with audiences and contine to differentiate Sky’s proposition - but having its own Studio in Elstree enhances it ability to do that
Is presence in a number of markets means it can form part of the popular culture in other territories and build its presence in less mature markets and drive growth there
Being part of Comcast means its ability to drive this forward is enhanced, distribution possibilities global (content is global)
