Competency post ampere Flashcards
Communication skills
Generally have 3 audiences - internal, clients, the industry as a whole
Written comms - reports, sometimes long form prose, some more powerpoint
Spoken - presentations to client, internal presentations, webinars, recently was part of a video
recently received feedback that our regular quarterly update of the ad market was getting wordy and repetitive with each edition - so we moved it to a more visual powerpoint format to draw attention to the key points rather than labouring over the some of the more predictable parts of that report
Delivering at pace
I’d hope that if its regular task or something i had lots of time to do, a good portion of it will have been done already;
Client inquiries - questions about that data with the expectation of a quick turnaround. Its often the case that these will be similar in theme so to avoid having to write a fresh answer every time i made an FAQ with all the main questions which i passed to all the analysts and sales team so that we’d all be consistent with these responses but also save time, and we found this helped out alot with training

Collaborating and partnering
I was part of a video we did predicting our top trends for 2022 so it required input from every team, so it required that i put together a narrative which nicely fits the overall themes and auguments them where possible
so that involved iteratively working on this script with multiple contributors to make sure we brought out the best in our expertise
and it was very well received so i think we did that very effectively
leading communicating
At Ampere we have an editorial process for publishing reports and i represent our team in the editorial process so that involves coordinating our teams report output and ensuring regular reporting goes out in a timely way but also ensuring our more ad hoc reporting is varies and showing the best of our research and data e.g.
So this involves coordinating the analysts in my team as well as team members on the editorial and marketing side

Editorial
Generaly coordinating with relevant analysts when a forecast needs to be changed or when new results come in - e.g. when Comcast results come in which we derrive our Sky forecasts for, we need to make sure we’re broadly aligned across Sky UK, Germany and Italy

Omni running out of budget
Budget was spent quite wastefully and we ended up running out of our bulk buy money for our regular consumer survey

Changing and improving
Omni running out of budget
Budget was spent quite wastefully and we ended up running out of our bulk buy money for our regular consumer survey
So when i came to buy another bulk buy for the year I looked at how we were spending the money previously, decided we could probably reduce the frequency of some of the questions and impose a limit for each survey - which was very successful and we were able to get the level of insight we needed across the year consistently with a little bit of room for ad hoc requirements
Organisational skills
a lot of our clients will be paying close attention to companies results. and especially for larger companies , and i keep an eye on 27 companies so it’s really important that im organised and updating those results as soon as they come in, especially for bigger companies
a lot of that is checking regularly but also checking news pages for when the announcements will be and noting those dates in the calender - often there wont we any release dates so i just have to anticipate based on previous years, and also knowing that some countries are more prone to reporting early and some later
and the legitimacy of our data depends on being organised about this, so thats really important to me as a analyst
Working under pressure
Always the client inquiries which involve a tight turnaround, but also the client consulting projects which may also need revisions with a quick turnaround
Generally if i can anticipate that im going to be on this type of project i try to plan so allow me to devote as much time to it as possible
I have a really great team who all appreciate the pressure of consulting jobs so i’d try and delegate as much as i could where possible - so i knew a company was going to report their Q4s, id ask a team member if they’d be able to take care of that for me so i could devote my time to the project
I’d also mange expectations as best as i could, so if there was no realistic way i could meet a deadline id be sure to communicate to my boss and see whether the best option in a given scenario is a late piece of work which delivers 100% or an on time piece of work which delivers 75%, or if there were areas in which someone else could help deliver on time
attention to detail
When forecasting, important details may be hidden in footnotes, graphs, tiniest of paragraphs in the most dense piece of writing, so its really important that i have that eye for detail to ensure im collecting all the data possible to ensure our forecasts are as accurate as possible
Our reports go out to our clients so it really undermines our credibility if there are errors and oversights so its so important that all the small details are taken care of
