Competency Flashcards
Communication skills
3 audiences - the whole company, smaller teams, the Board - which i adapt my style for and make sure im selecting the relevant information;
Written - MI, MD report, reports;
Spoken - Team Meetings, various presentations;
E.g - ofw emails became more detailed in what contributions should look like, and did a follow up email to send through afterwards;
Helped other people write Board material, reviewing often;
I have a framework (house)
Delivering at pace
I’d hope that if its regular task or something i had lots of time to do, a good portion of it will have been done already;
During Team Meeting, one team ran over their allotted time a lot so we weren’t going to have time for everyone. I sent them a message during the meeting apologising, and asking whether they’d be open to doing their presentation another time, as i identified theirs as something we didn’t want to rush, and i found them the appropriate forum and it went much better;
Changing OFW and Team Meeting in face of covid (keeping it engaging)
Making effective decisions
Changed the Team Meeting format
Collaborating and partnering
Always providing clear agendas & actions;
Company KPIs - worked with CTO and CMO to outline team specific KPIs, ensured they were ambitious enough and specific and measurable and were going to encourage good behaviour/performance. I then worked with them to present these objectives at the team meeting, ensuring that (as someone who wasn’t part of those teams) the deck communicated these properly and was clear where these fitted in with the overarching company objectives;
Engagement - worked with marketing team in areas which weren’t my expertise;
IP only (product) - consulted with key stakeholder to ensure it meets freesat needs and how our roadmap fare with this audience
Leading/communicating
Delegated some of the Team Meeting to more junior member by giving her a clear brief, outlining hat was essential and where she was free to make it her own. She did a great job in her 360 said she really enjoyed it and it allowed her to grow in confidence;
Delegating MI but still being responsible for it
Building capability for all
Handed over MI and omni
Strategic thinking
Organising the company team meeting to ensure it conveys the bigger picture. Reformed when it seemed to be failing;
Helped reform strat meeting when it appeared to be failing
Teamwork
Input for MI - Set clear deadlines and provided a template. To improve further, i asked if putting a deadline in the calendar would help, and starting providing examples from the last edition to better advise on detail and content needed. Making myself available if more help was needed; running creative testing with marketing
Changing and improving
Team meeting; OFW; Newsletter
Organisational skills
Doing the MI from scratch - coordinating to ensure contributors are under control and time for review, Generally, by to do list process, Agendas, calendars, actions for individuals, deadlines, regular updates and reviews
Working under pressure
IP Discussion guide review - very late receipt, very long, and community was going to start very soon afterwards. I needed sign off from line manager. I didn’t want him to have to work late, so I emailed agency to highlight that this was a difficult deadline in the circumstances, could they receive this the next morning; We had briefed them well so there weren’t major issues, but i still had to take the hit and work late for a few hours. I informed my line manager and told him i’ve highlighted bits which need changing and asked if he could make himself available to review.
