What are creams
Semisolid oil in water, emulsifier, non greasy, cosmetically acceptable
What are ointments
Semi solid grease/ oil. Emollient and greasy
\what are lotions useful for?
Liquid formation, medication in water, alcohol. Used to treat scalp and hair bearing areas
What do pastes do
contain ZNO, can be difficult to apply. Used in soothing bandages, cooling or drying wounds
What enhances rehydration of the skin?
Emollients
In what condition would emollients be v helpful
scaly/ dry conditions including eczema. Frequent dosing necessary

Antiproliferative, immunosuppressive, anti inflammatory and vasoconstrictive

What are some side effects of cortical steroids
thinning of the skin, purpura and stretch marks. Telangiectasia, rosacea and dermatitis
When would you use antiseptics and give example
recurrent infections, wound irrigation and antibiotic resistance i.e. potassium permanganate bath in eczema
What antibiotics would be used in acne
clindamycin, erythromycin, tetracycline
What antibiotics would be used in rosacea
metronidazole
