Skill continua Flashcards
1
Q
What are the 6 skill continua?
A
- Fine- Gross
- Simple- Complex
- Self paced- Externally paced
- High- Low
- Discrete- Continuous- Serial.
- Open- Closed
2
Q
What is an open skill?
A
- Unpredictable environment.
- Performer has to react and adjust to the situation.
(Externally paced)
3
Q
What is a closed skill?
A
- Predictable environment.
- Skills are identical.
(Internally paced)
4
Q
What is a gross skill?
A
- Large muscle groups used.
- Produce big, powerful movements.
5
Q
What is a fine skill?
A
- Small muscle groups used.
- Require accuracy and intricacy.
6
Q
What is a self paced skill?
A
- The performer controls the start and the speed of the skill.
- Closed.
7
Q
What is an externally paced skill?
A
- When the performer has no control over the start and speed of the skill.
- Open.
8
Q
What is a discrete skill?
A
- When there is a clear beginning and ending of a skill.
9
Q
What is a continuous skill?
A
- The skill has no clear beginning or ending (ending of 1 subroutine becomes the beginning of the next).
10
Q
What is a serial skill?
A
- Several discrete skills put together.
- In order to create a more integrated movement.
11
Q
What is a high skill?
A
- A skill that is not easily broken into parts.
- Done at speed.
12
Q
What is a low skill?
A
- A skill that is easily broken into parts.
- Subroutines can be practiced in isolation.
13
Q
What is a simple skill?
A
- Requires few decisions.
14
Q
What is a complex skill?
A
- Requires lots of decisions.
- More than 1 component.
