Q
  1. Reaction time
A
  • Involves no movement
  • Is the time taken from the onset of the stimulus to the onset of the response.
  • It is that fraction of a second that it takes us to process the available selected stimuli.

Q

Simple reaction time

A
  • This is where there is one specific response to one stimulus.
  • Fast reaction and response as the athlete only has one thing to think about before they react.

e.g. in a swimming race the stimulus is the starter signal and the only response is to dive in.

Q

Choice reaction time

A
  • This is where you have to choose from numerous stimuli.
  • The response is slower.
  • It can also be when the player has to choose a number of responses once the correct stimulus has been chosen.

e.g. in football in open play you may have several team mates calling for a pass and several responses in terms of whom to pass to, type of pass etc.
