What is a Home Signal?
Lights are vertically aligned
- Can’t pass stop unless authorised
- Can show up to 7 aspects
- Controlled by a Signaller (unless signaller leaves and put Automatic “A”)
What is an Automatic Signal?
Lights are staggered diagonally
- Can self-authorise to pass at stop (Rule 1, Section 3)
- Can show up to 6 aspects
- Controlled by track circuit only
What are Dwarf Signals?
Only uses 1 light
- Can’t pass at Stop unless authorised
- Can show 3 aspects (Stop may also use purple or blue)
- Controlled by Signaller

🔴 mean?
Clear Normal Speed
Points - Set
Track - Clear
Speed - Track speed
Next aspect - Proceed
What does 🟡
🔴 mean?
Normal Speed Warning
Points - Set
Track - Clear
Speed - Track speed
Next aspect - Stop
What does 🟡
🟢 mean?
Reduce to Medium
Points - Set
Track - Clear
Speed - Track speed but need to reduce to 40km by next aspect
Next aspect - Medium Aspect Proceed
What does 🔴
🟢 mean?
Clear Medium Speed
Points - Set
Track - Clear
Speed - 40km
Next aspect - Proceed

🟡 mean?
Medium Speed Warning
Points - Set
Track - Clear
