Shoulder/Humerus RAD 1 Positioning Flashcards
What SID is used for humerus and shoulder projections?
40”
What IR is used for the humerus?
14 x 17
What IR is used for the shoulder?
10 x 12
What respiration are the shoulder and humerus views taken?
Suspended respiration
Where are shoulder views done?
On the wall bucky
Where are humerus views done?
Either wall bucky or table top?
Where is the CR located for an AP humerus?
Perpendicular to mid-shaft
Where are the epicondyles for an AP humerus?
Parallel to the IR
What structures are seen in an AP humerus?
- Epicondyles are seen without rotation
- Humeral head and greater tubercles are seen
- Lesser tubercle is superimposed between greater tubercle and the humeral head
Which way can the lateral humerus be done?
either mediolaterally or lateromedially
How many degrees does the elbow joint flex for a lateral humerus?
90
Where is the CR located for a lateral humerus?
Perpendicular to the midshaft of the humerus
Where are the epicondyles located on a lateral humerus
Perpendicular to the IR
What structures are seen on a lateral humerus?
- Superimposed epicondyles
- Lesser tubercle seen medially
- Greater tubercle superimposed over humeral head
Where is the CR located for an AP Internal shoulder?
1” inferior to the coracoid process
Where are the epicondyles located for an AP internal shoulder?
Perpendicular to the IR
What structures are seen for an AP internal shoulder?
- Lesser tubercle seen
- Greater tubercle superimposed over humeral head
- Must include superior scapula, lateral half of clavicle, & proximal humerus
Where is the CR located for an AP external shoulder?
1” inferior to the coracoid process
Where are the humeral epicondyles located for a AP external shoulder?
Parallel to the IR
What structures are seen in an AP external shoulder?
- Humeral head seen
- Greater tubercle seen laterally
- Lesser tubercle superimposed over humeral head\
- Includes superior scapula, lateral half of clavicle, & proximal humerus
Where is the CR located for the Y view?
The glenohumeral joint
What is the “Y” compromised of?
- Acromion
- Coracoid process
- Body of scapula
What structures are seen in the Y-view?
- Humeral head and glenoid cavity superimposed
- Acromion projected laterally and no superimposition
- Coracoid superimposed or projected below clavicle
- Used to evaluate for separated shoulder
- Anterior dislocation= Humeral head is beneath coracoid process
- Posterior dislocation= Humeral head is beneath acromion process
