Signs + symptoms
A
the skin is cool, clammy, grey. pulse is weak + rapid
breathing may be slow, shallow or hyperventilation
blood pressure is below normal.
the person may be nauseated + eyes may seem to stare sometimes the pupils are dilated

A
the person may be conscious or unconscious - if conscious, they may feel faint or be very weak or confused. shock sometimes causes overly excited or anxious

Action
A
- call 999
- have the pt lie down on their back with their feet about a foot higher than their head. if this is not possible keep flat + still
- check for signs of circulation (breathing, coughing, movement) if absent, begin CPR
- keep the person warm + comfortable, loosening tightness + give blanket
- give nothing by mouth + turn the person to their side to prevent choking if the person vomits or bleeds from the mouth
- seek trt for injuries such as bleeding or broken bones
