Outline
the decision on what to provide will be influenced by the findings of the first aid needs assessment
1.
a leaflet giving general guidance on first aid (HSE leaflet basic advice on first aid at work)
2.
20 individually wrapped sterile plasters (assorted sizes) appropriate to the type of work (hypoallergenic plasters can be provided if necessary)
3.
Two sterile eye pads
4.
two individually wrapped triangular bandages, preferably sterile
5.
six safety pins
6.
two large + six medium sized sterile individally wrapped unmediated wound dressings + scissors
7.
at least three pairs of disposable gloves (non latex)
8.
Sealed cleansing wipes
Face shield for non-contact resuscitation
Burn shield
Finger dressings
Space blanket to maintain body temperature
Micropore tape

employers may wish to refer to this which provides further info on the contents of the work place + first aid kids. the contents should reflect the outcome of the first aid needs assessment
In addition to this:
dental practice must also provide: emergency drugs box, portable suction unit, oxygen cylinder with tubing and face mask, positive ventilation bag as well as an external automatic defibrillator (AED) for cardiac arrest.
Mains water supply
If this is not readily available for eye irrigation, at least one litre of sterile water or sterile normal saline (0.9%) in sealed disposable containers should be provided. when the seal has been broken, they should not be kept for reuse
The first aider
is responsible for taking care of first aid kit/ eye was station and should be readily available. must not be used after expiry date and only contain dry items which is protected against dust + damp
