Airway
open the airway by placing one hand on casualty’s forehead + gently lifting the head back, lift the chin using 2 fingers only.
this will move the tongue away from the back of the mouth
look for signs of obstruction
Breathing
The normal rate is between 12 + 20 breaths per minute
Look for signs of
cyanosis, look, listen + feel for no more than 10 secs for breathing. Feel breath against your cheek
If casualty is breathing normally
treat any life threatening injuries + place them in recovery position
If casualty is not breathing normally
or if you have doubt, begin CPR
CPR
cardiopulmonary resuscitation is first aid technique that can be used if someone isn’t breathing properly or their heart has stopped.
Check compressions + rescue breaths keep blood +oxygen circulating in the body
If someone isn’t breathing + not moving/responding
call 999 or 112 for an ambulance, then if you can start CPR
call 999 before you start
30 chest compressions: 2 rescue breaths
