What is sexual reproduction?
The fusing of a male reproductive cell with a female gamete.
What is the fusing of gametes called?
Fertilisation
What is the new cell formed in fertilisation called?
A zygote.
What happens to zygotes?
They undergo cell division and become embryos
What happens in sexual reproduction?
Genetic info from both parents is mixed together producing offspring with some characteristics of both parents but not identical to either.
What is genetic variation?
When the offspring is NOT genetically identical to the parent.
What are the types of variation in sexual reproduction?
Genetic and environmental
What is genetic variation responsible for?
Hair colour, eye colour, face shape, skin tone
What is genetic variation controlled by?
Specific genes
What is environmental variation responsible for
Height, weight.
What causes environmental variation
Diet.
Why do most animals reproduce sexually.
Genetic Variation in species is desirable.
Why is genetic variation in species desirable.
It can be an advantage for adaptation and survival of species.
