What do we need for a balanced diet
Carbs, protein, lipids (fat), vitamin, minerals, fibre
What are carbs
Sugars. Provides body with glucose, which is converted to energy to support bodily functions and physical activity.
Where are starch and sugar found
Starch: cereal, cornflower, potatoes, pasta, flour
Sugar: fruit, veg, honey, milk
What is protein
Helps with growth and repair of muscles
Where is protein found
Fish, meat, cheese, milk, eggs, nuts
What are lipids
Fat. Provides slow release energy and insulation, stored beneath the skin. 25% of diet should be fat.
Where are lipids found
Oils, dairy, nuts, fish
What is vitamin a for
Vision
What is vitamin b for
Energy and stress reduction
What is vitamin c for
Healthy skin
What is vitamin d for
Bones and teeth
What are minerals
E.g calcium for growth of teeth and bones
Where is calcium found
Milk, cheese, eggs, cereal, green veg, bread, tofu
What is iron
Needed for formation of red blood cells
Where is iron found
Red meat, green veg, eggs, lentils, bread
