Cells Flashcards
Red blood cells…
Small to pass through capillaries
Biconcave for increased surface area allowing more oxygen to diffuse in
No nucleus to carry more oxygen
Egg cells…
Half the chromosomes
Large cytoplasm for food store
Sperm cells….
Mitochondria for respiration for energy
Half the chromosomes in dna
Flagellum for mobility
White blood cells….
Release anti bodies
Can change shape to engulf pathogens
Sensory neurone
Send signals from sensory receptors to spinal cord and Brain.
Large surface area
Motor neurone….
Sends signals from brain to muscle
Large surface area
Root hair cell
Large surface area
Absorption of minerals and water
Xylem….
Carries water through long tube one continuous water movement
No nuclei or cell organelles
Phloem….
Carries sucrose from leaves to other parts of plants
No nucleus but has companion cell with nucleus and organelles
Guard cells….
Fill with water and can change shape to allow carbon dioxide to enter leaf for photosynthesis
Muscle cell
Mitochondria to carry out respiration for muscle contraction
Cytoplasm packed with muscle fibres so cell can contract
