What are the two self-report techniques?
Questionaries and interviews.
Within questionnaires, what are the two types of questions that can be asked?
Closed questions and open questions?
What are closed questions?
Questions that have a predetermined range of answer from which respondents select one.
What type of data do closed questions tend to produce?
Quantitative data.
What are open questions?
Questions that invite respondents to provide their own answers rather than select one of those provided.
What type of data do open questions tend to produce?
Qualitative data.
What are the two types of interviews?
Structured and unstructured.
What are structured interviews?
Any interview in which the questions are decided in advance.
What is the format of unstructured interviews?
Starts with some general aims and possibly some questions, then lets the interviewee’s answers guide subsequent questions.
What is social desirability bias?
A distortion in the way people answer questions - they ted to answer questions in such a way that presents themselves in a better light.
What is the interviewer effect?
The result of an interviewer’s expectations, communicated unconsciously, on a respondent’s behaviour.
When would you use a filler question?
In a questionare.
What is a filler question?
Irrelevant question to keep the subject naive, retain focus and avoid demand characteristics.
When would you use sequencing?
In questionares or interviews.
What is sequencing?
The order you put the questions in, short and easy first.
