Experimental Design 3 - Matched Pairs Flashcards
What are the 5 steps of matched pairs?
1) Recruit a group of ppts.
2) Find out who you have got. test them on something really relevant, put in order.
3) Recuit another group that matches relevant characteristics.
4) Split the pairs.
5) Compare the results for the matched pairs.
When you are getting the second group, what are three types of people you could get?
Members of the public.
Who you already have.
TWINS.
What are two advantages of matched pairs?
1 - Limited group/individual differences, because the relevant characteristic is the same within the pairs.
2 - No order effects, only doing ti once, no boredom or fatigue.
What are two disadvantages of matched pairs?
1 - Investigator effects, because they are carried out at the same time. (concurrently).
2 - Time and effort to find the pairs, and it may still result in individual differences.
