Q

describe Bandras Model of self-efficacy

4 factors influencing levels of self efficacy

A
  1. past performance accomplishments:
    - experiencing success can raise confidence that can influence perfromance e.g. a coach reminds me about the success of diving into the water
    - success that has ben attributed internally can motivate and raise confidence e.g. reasons for success is own ability
    2.verbal persuasion:
    - encouragement can increase confidence - more effective if role model or coach with effective methods e.g. coach encourages you tp dive by saying you can do it
  2. vicarious experience:
    - if what is observed is successful then it can raise confidence especially if that person is as similar standard to you e.g. watch a teammate dive successfully will evelop your confidence
  3. emotional arousal:
    - controlling arousal can help confidence e.g. if i feel calm my confidence in diving is higher
    - more likely to raise confidence if relaxed or use mental rehearsal e.g. try to physcially relax and brathe slowly and deeply before dive

Q

explain Vealey’s model of sports confidence

A

sports condifence can be effected by a number of factors
- objective sport situation e.g. penalty kick in football
- trait sports confidence is an existing level of sports confidence (innate & stable) e.g. football player may have innate high level of confidence. It effects state sports confidence e.g. the football players confidence in taking the penalty kick depends on SC-trait levels
- competitive orientation is the xtent to which you are prepared to compete
- state sports confidence is the confidence you have in a specifc situation and is changeable e.g. football player has high confidence in scoring the penalty kick
- the subjective outcomes are how a performer judges or interprets the outcome *e.g. football player interprets that a good goal has been scored from the penatly *
- subjective outcome affects trait sports confidence
- positive subjectivity leads to mastery orientation
- negavtive subjectivity leads to learned helplessness
