Why does confidence vary?
It varies in intensity, with the situation, and depends on interaction
What is involved in interaction
Experience, situation, and personality
Describe experience
If you have experience in an activity, you are more likely to perform better
E.g. if a team has beaten their rivals quite heavily they are more likely to think they can beat them again
Describe situation
If you have a player more experienced in free kicks and penalties, they are more likely to succeed in that specific situation
Describe personality
There are two types of confidence = trait and state

PEVV:
Past experiences
Emotional arousal
Verbal persuasion
Vicarious experiences
Describe past experiences: PEVV
If a performer has complete a task before, they are more likely to be confident to achieve it again!
Occurs when players have not only achieved the win but also enjoyed the experience
Give an example of a past experience
Playing a team who you always play - and so you know the set plays
Describe emotional arousal: PEVV
Use of cognitive and somatic strategies to control stress, arousal, and anxiety - such as visualisation and mental rehearsal
