Who should screen for blood pressure? (3)
Any one can but primarily those of African American descent, those overweight, and have a history of having higher than normal blood pressure?
Breast Cancer
Recommendation screening starts at age 40
Cervical cancer
Recommendations start every 3 years from age 21-29
For those b/w the age of 30-65, recommended screening of every 3-5 years if having a Pap test and a test for HPV
Colorectal Cancer
Recommended age is 45 and can be done by performing a fecal occult blood test (FOBT)
Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)
Recommended screening is 15-65 years
younger adolescents and older adults at risk of infection should be screened as well
What is the recommended amount of alcohol for females and males?
Females - no more than one drink a day
Male - no more than 2 drinks a day
Diabetes
Recommended blood glucose test screening every 3 years for adults or sooner depending on medical history
Dilated eye examination
Those who have an increased risk of eye disease should have a dilated eye exam
Risk factors: Diabetes, African American race, over the age of 40, family history of glaucoma
Dental Examination
Yearly dental exam and cleaning
Bone Density
Screening is recommended for osteoporosis in postmenopausal patients younger than 65 years
