Design brief
A
Needed to begin work on a new idea. Often provided by a client, outlining their expectations. Eg. Purpose, target audience, how/where used, cost
Once idea developed, it goes through market research to help develop design & identify problems
Findings & conclusions presented to client. Crucial stage as research may suggest design needs rethinking or may not be worth producing at all

Design specification
A
Once brief is agreed, design specification can be drawn up including further product detail
Eg. 5 W’s, env, mats, safety

Manufacturing specification
A
Document containing all the info needed to make the product. Includes technical drawings or CAD diagrams, flowcharts & timing plans
Eg. Assembly, quality control
