SB1d - Inside Bacteria Flashcards
How are bacteria seen with light microscopes?
By being stained
Why can scientists see bacterium on an electron microscope in more detail?
Due to the extra magnification and resolution
What does the flagellum do?
Helps the bacteria move
What does it mean if bacteria are prokaryotic?
They don’t have a nucli or chromosomes
What does the cytoplasm contain in bacteria?
One loop of chromosomal dna and smaller loops of dna called plasmids
What does a plasmid DNA do?
Controls a few of the cells activities
What are the structures in a bacterium?
Flagellum, plasmids, chromosomal dna, slime coat (not present in all bacteria) flexible cell wall, cell membrane and cytoplasm which has ribosomes
What is the purpose of a slime coat?
For protection
