SB1b - plants and animals Flashcards
Which structures do plant cells have that animal cells also have?
Nucleus, ribosomes, cytoplasm, mitochondria and cell membrane
Which structures do plant cells have that animal cells do not?
Cell wall, chloroplasts and a vacuole
What is a cell wall?
A cellulose layer which surrounds the plan cell
What does a nucleus do?
Contains the genetic material
What is the cytoplasm?
A watery jelly where most of the cell’s activities occur.
What does a cell membrane do?
Controls which molecules enter and exit the cell
What does the mitochondria do?
Carries out aerobic respiration
What do ribosomes do?
Make new proteins for the cell through protein synthesis
What do chloroplasts do?
Contain chlorophyll and are the sites of photosynthesis
What is the vacuole?
Filled with cell sap and helps give the plant cell its shape
What organelles are there in an animal cell?
Nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, mitochondria and ribosomes
How do scientists see mitochondria and ribosomes in a cell?
Using an electron microscope
Where are chromosomes found?
In the nucleus and is where dna is kept
What is a eukaryotic cell?
A cell with a nucleus
What shape is a mitochondria?
Jelly bean shaped
