Two types of safelights:

- low wattage bulbs or fluorescent tubes with a red coloured filter.
- LED’s or fluorescent tubes with a direct filter coating.

A
Red lights in the darkroom that prevent exposure from white light sources

How to perform a safelight check
A
- under dark conditions, place lead characters on the film, each one one-third of the film length
- Place an opaque covering two-thirds of the film, under a safelight for 15 minutes
- move opaque to cover additional third, leave under light for 15 minutes more
- move off the opaque to cover rest of film under light for 15 more minutes
- process film and evaluate.

How to tell if a safelight is to excessive/inadequate?
A
transparent base of the film would have a measurable density that what would normally be measured.
