Other (1) Flashcards
Factors that affect the type of energy chosen for a radiographic inspection
Material:
- type
- density
- thickness
- location
- code or standard requirements
- available equipment
What is a DMF?
Dose Modification Factors - A deterministic value applied when calculating the equivalent dose of radiation
Influencing factors:
- relative organism radiosensitivity
- physical factors (of radiation)
- chemical factors (oxygen, water etc.)
- biological factors (DNA, age, growth phase)
What is a log and antilog?
log of a number is the power (exponent) to which the number 10 must be raised to give the original number.
10 x 10 = 100 = log of 2
10 x 10 x 10 = 1000 = log of 3
When are logs important?
when determining;
- radiation safety and exposure control calculations (time, distance, shielding)
- constructing exposure charts
- using film characteristic curves to correct exposure times
What is the other name for a characteristic curve?
D log E curve
density is plotted against logarithms of exposure
What is Reciprocity?
Reciprocity Law or Bunsen-Roscoe Law, both mA and time can be changed in order to keep exposure a constant.
What is an Exposure Factor?
The relationship between exposure and the distance of a radioactive source to the film.
