CCD Digitization system
A
CCD device illuminates film by a diffuse source, light is focused through a lens to the size of the CCD elements.

Laser Digitization system
A
Laser scanner uses non-imaging photomultiplier tube to detect light transmitted through film, converts into a digital value = the density of film at a specific point.
