RNA Molecules Flashcards
Three Types of RNA
mRNA, tRNA, rRNA
mRNA
Messanger for RNA. it uses DNA template for genetic coding and when released from the chromosome it travels to the edge of the nucleus to the nuclear pore in order to access the cytoplasm to start translation
tRNA
Transfer RNA. Helps transfer the anti condons to match up/find bonds with the codons from the mRNA
rRNA
Ribosome RNA. the complex RNA molecules and proteins help make up the ribosome
Codon
Triplet of nucleotides
What’s special about AUG
It’s the starting triplet
What’s the name given to the collective of three bases?
Anti-codon
Identify two possible outcomes for the protein that has been created that do not involve a change in its structural appearance.
- moves to preform other functions in the body
- it quickly travels and bonds with other molecules
How does a point mutation differ from a chromosomal mutation?
Chromosomal mutation can happen with duplication elimination, affecting the bases of a chromosome
While a point mutation only effects one set of base pairs
Comment on any two mutagenic agents
