Reproductive System Test Flashcards
Estrogen
- Homothalis
- Primary characteristic of female ovary to have a baby
Prolactin
Anterior pituitary gland
Produces milk in breasts for developing fetus/baby
Progesterone
Homothalis
Maintains uterine lining
FSH
anterior pituitary gland
stimulates growth and recruitment of immature ovarian follicles in the ovary
LH
anterior pituitary gland
triggers ovulation
Three secondary sex characteristics that are the result og hormonal interplay for both sexes in the table that follows
Males: hair growth, voice change, testis change
Women: Developing breasts, Hair growth, change of bone structure
Five Facts about Oxytoxcin
- love hormone
- developes in women as they give birth to child
- natural hormone
- women who do not have this hormone are more likely to not be attached to child
- at it’s peak with LH, right at birth of child
Homeostasis
property of system in the body where regulation (sugar levels) occur, also keeps body at a constant temperature
Hypothalamus
detects rises and releases hormone levels accordingly
Vasoconstriction
constriction of blood vessels which increases blood pressure
Sweating
sweating controls body temperature when the body is too warm, so water is produced from the glands to cool the body down
Piloerection
Goosebumps create dead air space which radiate heat back to skin
Shivering
Shivering is when the body is too cold and needs to be warmed up with quick movements, causing kinetic energy to help warm up
Differentiate the endometrium and myometrium
Endometrium is around the outside of the myometrium, closer to the oviducts and protects them and the myometrium is closer to the cervix
Lactation depends upon positive feedback
as the baby suckles on the nipple it causes a nerve response into the spinal cord and up to the hypothalamus, which stimulates the pituitary gland to produce more prolactin
