Q

Anaerobic respiration in muscle cells:

A
  • Muscles need a great deal of energy for contraction.
  • Under certain coniditons: Amount of oxygen may be limited.
  • ## Shortage of oxygen: Muscle cells respire anaroebically.

Q

What is the equation for anaerobic respiration?

A

Glucose –> Lactic Acid.

  • During Anaerobic respiration in muscles:
  • Glucose is converted into lactic acid.
  • Does not require oxygen.
  • Releases less energy than aerobic respiration.
  • Because:
  • Oxidation of glucose is incomplete.

Q

What is anearobic respiration in yeast called?

A
  • Fermentation.
  • Reaction is used to make: Alcholic drinks and beer.
  • Co2 in fermentation is useful to make bread.
  • Creates bubbles in the dough causing the bread to rise.
