Photosynthesis Flashcards
Is photosynthesis endothermic?
Yes.
What is photosynthesis?
- Takes place in the plant.
- ## Leaves contain chlorophyll which can absorb the light needed for photosynthesis.
Photosynthesis simplified?
-Plant takes in co2 and water into the leaf.
- Light energy is absorbed into chlorophyll.
- Light is used to convert co2 and water into glucose and oxyen is also produced.
-
-
What is the word equation for photosynthesisLi
Carbon Dioxide + Water —> Oxygen + Glucose.
co2 + H20 –> o2 + C6H12O6.
- Light Intensity to Rate of Photosynthesis graph;
- As Light intensity increases= Rate of photosynthesis increases.
- ## Plant has more light energy to carry out photosynthesis so reaction is faster.
When the rate of photosynthesis increases as light intensity increases whatdoes this show?
- Tells us that light is a limiting factor.
- ## Photosynthesis was not fast as it could be because there was not enough light.
What happens when the light intestintiy incerases but the rate of photosynthesis does not increase?
- Light Intesinity is no longer a limiting factor.
- Something else may be short in supply.
- E.g: Level of co2.
Are the graphs the same?
Yes. Just different limiting factors.
How does chlorophyll affect the rate of photosynthessis?
Leaves with less chlorophyll: Trap less light so, have a lower rate of photosynthesis
Temperature to Rate of Photosynthesis graphs:
- Increasing the temperature:
- Enzymes involved in photosynthesis work faster so rate increases.
If we keep increasing the temperature: - Enzymes may become denatured
- Rate of Photosynthesis falls.
