Immune System Flashcards
1
Q
What does the immune system do?
A
- Destroys pathogens + any toxins they produce.
- protects us incase the same pathogen attempts to invades again in the future.
2
Q
What are whiteblood cells?
A
- Forms apart of the immune system.
- Can ingest and digest pathogens.
- WBC detects chemicals released from the pathogen and moves towards it.
- WBC ingests the pathogen.
- Uses enzymes to destroy pathogens.
- Phagocytosis.
3
Q
What are antibodies?
A
- Protien molecules produced by WBC.
- Antibodies stick to pathogens.
- ## Triggers pathogens to be destroyed.
4
Q
What is the first fact of antibodies?
A
- If a person catches measles:
- Antibodies against measles are developed.
- Only protect themselves agaisnt measles`
- Not any other type of pathogen.
5
Q
What is the second fact of antibodies?
A
- Can remain in the blood for a long time.
- Protect us incase we get infected with the same pathogen.
6
Q
What do WBC do against toxins?
A
- Can produce chemicals called anti-toxins.
- Anti-toxins stick to toxin molecules and prevents them from damaging cells. `
