What are pathogens?

- Microorganisms that causes infectious diseases.
- E.gL Bacteria + Virsues.
- Protists.
- Fungi.

How does bacteria make us ill?
A
- Once inside human body, reproduces rapidly.
- Then releases: harmful chemicals called toxins.
- ## Toxins damage tissues and makes us ill.

What are viruses?
A
- Cannot reproduce by themselves.
- Reproduce in a host cell.

Route of a virus?
A
- Invades the host cell.
- Viruses reproduces inside the host cell.
- Very damaging to the cell:
- When the virus leaves the cell: cause the cell to burst open and die.

- Spread in the air.
- ## E.g: Water droplets.

- Can be spread directley im water.
- ## E.g: Chlorea.

- Spread by direct contact between individuals e.gL HIV.

How do you reduce the spread of pathogens?
A
- Washing hands before eating
- Providing people with clear drinking water.
- Using a condom during sexual intercourse reduces HIV.
- Case of highly infectionous diseases= Patients are isolated.
- Vaccinations.
