Blood@ Flashcards
1
Q
What is blood plasma?
A
- Liquid part of blood.
-
2
Q
What does blood plasma transport?
A
- Soluble digestion products from small intestine to other organs.
- Co2:
- From the organs to the lungs to be breathed out.
- Waste Product Urea from the liver to the kidneys to be excreted in the urine.
3
Q
What are red blood cells?
A
- Transports oxygen from the lungs to the body cells.
-
4
Q
What is the 1st adaption of red blood cells?
A
1) Haemoglobin: A molecule that combines with oxygen in the lungs to form= Oxyheamoglobin.
- Travels to the organs where the oxyheamoglobin releases the oxygen.
5
Q
What is the 2nd adaption of red blood cells?
A
- Have no nucleus.
- ## More room for haemoglobin!.
6
Q
What is the 3rd adaptation of red blood cells?
A
- Centre of cells= Has dimples.
- Shape= Bioconcave shape.
- Gives red blood cells a greater surface area so that the oxygen diffuses out rapidly.
7
Q
What are white blood cells?
A
- Form part of the immune system.
- E.g: Making antibodies.
8
Q
What is the first feature of white blood cells?
A
- Contains a nucleus.
- Contains DNA which encodes the instructions that white blood cells need to do their job.
9
Q
What are platelets?
A
- Tiny fragments of cells.
- Help blood to clot.
10
Q
What are the uses of donated blood?
A
- Replace lost blood in injuries.
- Give platelets
