Fill a beaker with a fixed volume of dilute sulfuric acid: the limiting reactant
Place on top of a Bunsen burner

Heat the acid until almost boiling (so it doesn’t boil over when other reactants added)

Use a spatula to add small amounts of copper oxide to the acid whilst stirring with a glass rod

A

Continue adding copper oxide if the solution remains blue, until some powder remains after stirring
This shows the reaction has stopped and all acid has reacted

Use filtration to remove unreacted/ in excess copper oxide
We can use filtration as it’s insoluble (not reacted)

Create crystals of salt using evaporation
Place over beaker of boiling water until half the solution remains
