What is a mole?

A

Convenient way of counting atoms
1 mole of a substance contains 6.022x10²³ atoms

How is the relative atomic mass related?

A

Relative atomic mass = the mass of one mole of that element
For example one mole of magnesium has a mass of 24g, therefore it’s Ar is 24

How is the relative formula mass related?

A

Relative formula mass = the mass of mole of that compound
For example a mole of water has a mass of 18g, as it’s Mr is 18.

How to find the number of moles?

A

Mass = Number of moles x Mr or Ar
Number of moles = Mass/ Mr or Ar
Mr or Ar = Mass/ number of moles
