Reproduction - pelvis Flashcards
What is the pelvic girdle?
Two hip bones (3 parts, fused at the acetabulum) joined at the pelvic symphysis ventrally and the sacrum/caudal vertebrae dorsally.
What is the acetabulum?
The leg socket
What is the pelvic symphysis ?
A cartilagenous joint
What is ossa cox?
A hip bone
What 3 bones make up a hip bone?
Illeum - wing
Ischium - base
Pubic
What is the pelvic cavity?
Accomodate the bladder, urethra and reproductive organs as well as the end of the digestive tract
What is the perineum?
Region surrounding terminations of the digestive and urogenital tracts
What is the pelvic diaphragm?
A muscular sheet that separates the pelvic cavity from the perineum, retaining organs in the pelvis
What arae the two muscles of the pelvic diaphragm?
Levator ani and coccygeus muscles
Where do the levator ani muscles originate and insert?
Originate from ossa coaxe
Inert on external anal sphincter
(keeping anus in)
Where do the coccygeal muscles originate and insert?
Originate from ossa coxae
Insert dorsocaudally on caudal vertebrae
What is the area of the perineum?
Triangle containing anus and ischoprectal fossa.
What is the M. sphincter ani?
External anus muscles. Arranges circular wiyh sinus paranalis around
What is the artery supply of the pelvis?
Terminal branches of the aorta
- Hind limb/body wall - paired external iliac arteries
- Pelvic region - paired internal iliac arteries
>Internal pudendal artery - pelvic organs, visceral with branches to organs
> Caudal gluteal arter - wall of pelvic cavity - Midline structures and tail - median sacral artery
What are the veins of the pevis?
Drain into vena cava
