Renal Phys ML: 4 Flashcards
Renal Plasma Clearance
the amount of blood plasma that is cleared of a substance by our renal system per a unit of time
What can RPC measurements we used for?
how well the kidneys are functioning
When does RPC=GFR
when substances are freely filtered but not secreted or reabsorbed
What is an example of RPC=GFR
Inulin (125mL/min)
- the only blood that is being filtered is the 20% going in
When does RPC=Renal Plasma Flow
when substances are freely filtered and 100% secreted and not reabsorbed
What is an example of RPC=Renal Plasma Flow
the organic cation para-aminohippurate
-625mL/min
RPC>GFR
substance undergoes net secretion
-substances x must be put back into the nephron
RPC< GFR
substance undergoes net reasorption or partially filtered
-substance x to be reabsorbed back into the capillary
Partial filtration
some substances are not completely freely filtered and move around by being bound to a protein
Why is creatinine a good substance to show a true gfr through its RPC
produced by muscles at a constant rate
-free filtered
-not reabsorbed
-slightly secreted
What is micturition?
urination
How is the CNS signalled in the bladder
by stretch induced sensory
What are the smooth muscles of the bladder
detrusor and internal urethral sphincter
What is the skeletal muscles in the bladder?
external urethral spinchter
What causes the detrusor muscle to contract
parasympathetic input
