Reinforcement Flashcards
Why is reinforcement used?
To increase the likelihood of the performer demonstrating the desired behaviour
What is positive reinforcement?
The use of a satisfier to strengthen an S-R bond
What is negative reinforcement?
The withdrawal of an annoyer when the performer begins to demonstrate the desired movement
What is punishment reinforcement?
The use of a noxious when a performer demonstrates an undesired S-R bond
What is the aim of Thorndike’s laws?
The things that need to be considered when trying to strengthen an S-R bond
Name Thorndike’s laws
Law of exercise, Law of effect and Law of readiness
What is the Law of Exercise?
Repeating of rehearsing desired S-R connections to strengthen them using positive reinforcement
What is the Law of Effect?
If a response is followed by a satisfier, the S-R bond will strengthen. If a response is followed by a noxious then the S-R bond will weaken
What is the Law of Readiness?
The performer must be physically and mentally capable of completing the task
